Use of City Seal
The official seal of the City of Green Cove Springs is a protected symbol that represents the authority and identity of the City. Its use is regulated by City Ordinance 0-03-2024 and Florida law to prevent misuse and ensure the seal is used appropriately.
The City seal may not be used on:
- Commercial products or advertising
- Political campaigns or endorsements
- Advocacy materials implying City approval
- Merchandise, logos, or branding not officially authorized
Requesting permission to use the City seal
Individuals or organizations wishing to use the official City of Green Cove Springs seal must submit a written application for approval. Use of the City seal is not permitted unless expressly authorized by the City Council.
How to apply
All requests must be submitted in writing to the City Council and filed through the City Manager’s Office.
Information required in an application
Applications must include:
- Applicant name, address, and contact information, and whether the request is from an individual, for-profit business, nonprofit organization, or entity using a fictitious (“doing business as”) name.
- Proof of active and good standing registration with the Florida Division of Corporations for any corporation or fictitious name.
- A written description of the intended use of the City seal, including a sketch or visual showing the seal’s size, placement, and location on the final product, along with any accompanying text or graphics.
- The number of items that will include the City seal (for example, the number of prints in a limited edition).
- The length of time approval is being requested (for example, use on a calendar for a specific year).
- A narrative explaining how the proposed use supports the City of Green Cove Springs Comprehensive Plan, including how it promotes livability, authenticity, and the character of Green Cove Springs as a distinctive community.
- Identification of whether the request is associated with a City-sponsored or other government-sponsored event. If the request is for a private event, the public benefit of the event must be described.
Review process
Applications are reviewed by the City Manager or designee for completeness. Complete applications will be scheduled for consideration at the next reasonably available City Council regular meeting.
City Council decision
The City Council will determine whether the proposed use supports the City’s purpose and Comprehensive Plan goals. The Council may approve, deny, modify the request, or impose conditions on the use of the City seal. Any violation of approval conditions will be considered an unauthorized use and may be punishable by law. Renewal requests are subject to the same review process and are not guaranteed approval.
Fees
The City Council may impose a reasonable fee for the authorized use of the City seal.
Legal authority
Unauthorized use of the City seal is a violation of City ordinance and Florida law and may result in criminal penalties as provided by statute.
For questions or requests related to the City seal, please contact the City at 904-297-7500.
